11 July
The rain continued the next day, but we were warm and toasty in Muireann's home. We met the other two guests who had the regular room. Their names were Olivia and Olivia from Ohio. Very sweet young 24 year old girls and we all sat around about an hour and chatted with them and the family. Muireann made some amazing porridge for me with fresh cream and peaches and Mackenzie was again treated to eggs from her cage free chickens.
Time to leave and we had to head to town to grab some cash to pay for our second night. We couldn't do too much because of the rain, but amazingly it stopped for a bit and we windowed shopped, drank some great coffee at the Dingle Bean and stopped and grabbed a lamb burger at an outdoor festival complete with local musicians. We headed back to pay and Danny gave us 5 euros back for Irish good luck! We had bought the boys some chocolate lollipops at the festival and their faces lit up...made our day.
Time to travel on towards our next stop, Lisdoonvarna...yep that's a real name. We took the Shannon ferry as a short cut and enjoyed a cold breeze on the ferry with no rain. But, of course that didn't last long! We arrived in Lisdoonvarna at Helen's beautiful home and then we headed out for dinner at the Roadside Tavern where we feasted on the local smoked salmon from the Burren smokehouse and a cod fish fry along with a local beer... the Burren Micro Brewery Stout. We enjoyed talking with the table of locals next to us and then headed to the bar area where we listened to musicians. It was actually pretty comical because when we sat down there were four musicians playing and one by one others would come into the pub and sit at the table and start to play, displacing people who were eating nearby...quite fun to watch.
We left the pub and took a walk around town and listened from the street, 3 other Irish bands. We found out later that this is a hub for Irish music. It was grand to listen...oh, and the rain had stopped. We also found out that Lisdoonvarna is the Matchmaking capital of Europe and has an annual matchmaking festival in September...who knew?!
This wasn't the most exciting day, but still...it's good to be in Ireland!
Peace,
The Traveling Women
Tip of the day: Irish music is addicting!
