Milano: our last day in Italy, Day 17

We absolutely hated to leave our little Italian/Autrian paradise but we were on a journey...so we ate another good breakfast, said our goodbyes to Daniel and his mom, paid the bill...including the 18 Euro dinner...that was worth far more..and hopped on a local bus into Trento. This ride was so scary that Mackenzie wouldn't look out of the front window of the bus and I swear I heard the bus scrape the side of a car as we passed on a narrow part of the road!

Trento is a large town, but lucky for us the train station was right next to the bus stop which was close by the main Duomo in the central part of old town Trento. With an hour to wait until the train, we logged our backpacks and ourselves to the wonderful piazza in old town that included a lovely old cathedral. We explored for a while and headed back to board our train to Verona. Then board another to Milan. On the train to Milan we were in the same car as about ten runway models who kept going into the bathroom. They were each about 5'10" and Maybe 90 pounds? Wewanted to offer them our chips, but of course they'd go into the bathroom to throw up. Just kidding, but really I've never seen such thin human beings in my life...beautiful, yet thin...then again I'd never been to Milan.

We arrived in Milan and made our way to Turro where we were to stay In a very small apartment In a huge apartment building with a man from the Netherlands and his Japanese girlfriend. How we found the place is anyone's guess and it was the hottest day we've encountered so far and when we arrived, the place didn't have air condition! It was a little odd since we slept on a pull out couch in the main area near the kitchen and they slept in the bedroom and we all shared a bathroom...it''s at these moments I wish Jim had a bigger life insurance policy so that we could afford a real hotel. Or better yet be here with me! But, again, it's just a place to rest our heads and the last two nights had been like a dream!

We sponged off our sweat and headed down to the historical district via the metro system. The cathedral here was breathtaking! And we walked around the entire perimeter, not willing to pay to go in. Then we walked down toward the castle, stopping in shops along the way, then through the castle, and then the fun began!

Plopping ourselves onto a park bench, we people watched for a long time. The best people watching we had done. Milano (Milan) is a very cosmopolitan city..much like nyc and this park was like Central Park. The people were biking, walking, and running, or drinking wine and beer in a nearby park bar.

We strolled along for a while and took some pictures while enjoying the night life of Milan. Both being exhausted, we decided to jump back on the metro and head back to our little b&b.

We hit the hay earlish because we knew that tomorrow we would be off to our homeland: SCOTLAND.

Peace
